Glasgow & Edinburgh fan replies after URC weekend action
15+ min ago (388+ words) We asked Glasgow and Edinburgh fans for their views on their teams' URC weekend action. Glasgow lost 23-0 to Scarlets and Edinburgh edged out Ospreys 19-17. What Glasgow fans said: Tom: I was at the game and could not believe none of our players were able to keep the ball for more than a couple of phases. Coughed up possession and handed a desperate Scarlets team momentum and hope. Jare Oguntibeju and Dan Lancaster were the worst on the night but everyone was culpable. I hope Franco Smith gives them a rocket for letting the fans down. Garry: It looked like the classic example of 'never underestimate your opponent'. Scarlets turned up expecting a tough game and Warriors didn't turn up. Very poor display from Warriors. Scarlets earned that win. Kenny: Hard to pinpoint exactly what went wrong here. Basically nothing seemed…...
Oliver Glasner: Crystal Palace need to 'spend not save' says manager
28+ min ago (840+ words) Oliver Glasner was appointed Crystal Palace manager in February 2024 Just six months ago, Crystal Palace celebrated winning their first major trophy when they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final. That triumph earned the Eagles a place in Europe but they have struggled to find the balance between competing in the Conference League and performing domestically. Palace have failed to win any of their four Premier League matches that followed on from a European night, including Sunday's 2-1 loss at home to Manchester United. Manager Oliver Glasner believes a lack of serious investment in the squad, having sold talisman Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, is coming back to bite them. "We missed a couple of chances in July and August, in the transfer window, to make it easier for us but again we will stick together and make it better." Glasner…...

Billy Bonds: Former West Ham captain 'embodied spirit of the Hammers"
3+ hour, 31+ min ago (963+ words) Bonds was both a player and manager at West Ham Billy Bonds, who has died aged 79, was one of the greatest players ever to represent West Ham United and one of the finest never to win a full England cap. Bonds was the very embodiment of the West Ham spirit, the bearded and buccaneering captain who later managed the club, a figure of huge significance who fits alongside World Cup-winning trio Bobby Moore, Sir Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters in the Hammers' Hall Of Fame. "Rest in peace Billy, our courageous, inspirational, lion-hearted leader" read West Ham United's statement announcing his death " and every one of the club's supporters who watched Bonds play, or heard about his deeds, will echo that message. 3+ hour, 32+ min ago (996+ words) Shadow chancellor Mel Stride has called for the UK's financial regulator to investigate "possible market abuse" by people working in the Treasury and Downing Street in the run-up the Budget. The move comes as Chancellor Rachel Reeves denied she misled the public over the state of the country's finances, after it emerged she and officials had been told they were in better shape than widely thought - but she still gave briefings that the Tories described as overly pessimistic. The Conservatives have called on her to resign and Stride sent a letter, external to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) requesting a probe into potential market manipulation. "Confidential market sensitive information appears to have been spun, leaked and misused - and markets, businesses and families have paid the price," he claimed. The FCA regulates financial services firms in the UK and part of…...
